project overview

organization overview

North shore pro bono society
North shore pro bono society
was founded by Nicole Garton and Zahra Jenab to offer North Shore residents of limited means quality pro bono legal services in the areas of family mediation
and estate planning. Their goal and passion is to help those in our community who face access to
justice barriers. It is also their goal to offer new mediators the opportunity to be mentored by
experienced mediators. Finally, North Shore Pro Bono seeks to increase access to justice by
offering affordable legal education to members of the public and practitioners in the areas of
dispute resolution.

project overview

PBSC Student Volunteers will create plain language legal guides that will be hosted on the North
Shore Pro Bono webpage to help their clients – who are largely self-represented understand the
basics of Wills and Estate Law. All plain language legal content produced by the students will be
reviewed and approved by the supervising lawyer prior to public dissemination.
While the North Shore Pro Bono website already houses some valuable information that is free
for clients to access, the complex nature of wills and estates require a more robust overview.
Students will research statute and case law to create plain language legal guides that cover
topics such as the roles and responsibilities of executors, the process of obtaining probate and
how to create a will that is legally binding, among other topics assigned by North Shore Pro Bono.
two students will be required for this project.
